Event 25 Gunnersbury

The weather was horrible today but in total 233 brave souls run at Gunnersbury this morning, it was great to see the positiveness of the human spirit, lets enjoy the moment, its runday 🙂

This is one lovely park that like a few others on my adventure that I have run are not looking their best at the moment! The reason for this is the park is in the middle of renovation project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, it will be great to see it back to its full glory once the work is completed!

Course

The course is out and back, starting and finishing at the same point. Heading west and down to the Potomac, runners follow the inside path up to the children’s playground where the route turns right passing the boating lake and cafe and follows the outside path all the way back up to the start. (taken from their website course description)

For the record this was their winter course that is run almost exclusively on tarmac paths. The only exception is the mass start where runners are lined up between two white poles cutting across the start. This is to allow runners enough width to overtake before joining the path at their earliest opportunity!

Personal Stats

Time today 31:54 was irreverent it was getting round safely on a very wet course that had a large deposit of leaves on the path that could have been a slip hazard!

Important info

There is a free ample size car park but I did get caught out with the NAT Nav postcode given W3 8LQ, The entrance associated with this post code is closed to builders access only, it is the next entrance on the left along Popes Lane you need to use to get into the car park!

There is a cafe located inside the park, but the  museum is closed until 2017 as part of the transformation work taking place!

Final Verdict

I would like to thank Martin and his team of volunteers for organising an excellent event today in horrible weather conditions, also making us all feel extremely welcome, top work guys!

Special mention the young couple Kevin Riddell and Gillian I met from Scotland, hope you have got back home safely and are now dry again! Also the Lady who’s first parkrun it was today, home you enjoyed yourself despite the weather and have got the parkrun addiction to come back again soon!

Finally this is definitely a parkrun that I will have to revisit in better conditions and when all the building work is finished in 2017!

Top parkrun, definitely recommend!

Best
