Wow Bexley there are times on this challenge when the parkland is so beautiful it’s just a sheer pleasure to say I run on, Danson Park I take my hat off to as you are one of the jewels of the Greater London parkrun region!
Today it was my pleasure to meet and chat to a fellow tourist Ian Keith Taylor who is attempting to run all the parkruns in the UK at the moment he has run 94 events and 281 parkruns. Top work Ian and all the best on this monumental challenge!
The course is 2 anticlockwise laps of Danson park that start off and finishes at the boating pool that is mainly run on well-kept tarmac footpaths but at the backend of the course there is a gravel path leading up into a woodland downhill track!
There are two pronounced uphill inclines one along the Danson road and the gravel section leading to the woodland track.
For newcomers to Bexley there are a few points that I would like to raise:
- This is a very popular event so chose your position at the start if you are running for a time!
- There were a couple of locked swing gates on the course that you need to run around that could catch the unwary out
- In very wet conditions be very careful of your footing on the steep downhill woodland track
Overall this is a beautiful course that has something for everyone packed into lap!
Excellent pacing today because of the nature of the course I decided to follow the Volunteer running 35 mins with my time was 35.26
There is free parking I have been told for parkrunners before 9am at the Stables restaurant with the Sat Nav post code DA6 8HL
Before the parkrun begins toilets are available in the grounds of Danson house and the boathouse!
For the post run coffee you can retired to the lovely Danson Stables that opens at 10am on Saturdays
I would like to thank Paul Dallison and his team of volunteers for making all the visitors welcome at Bexley!
So if you are ever touring in London, Bexley should be at or near the top of your list, beautiful parkland and an excellent multi terrain course to test you out!
Top event, you all have been told!
