Bathed in beautiful spring morning sunshine I had the pleasure of running Norman Park, Bromley that is easily one of the largest parkrun events in Greater London region with 566 runners participating this week alone!
It was great to meet up with two stalwarts of Bromley, Marijana good luck on your charity fundraising and Andy who’s energy especially at the new runners briefing was infectious and brilliant!
Course
The course from this week reverted back to their summer route, which is 2 1/3 clockwise laps that is a mixture of grass and tarmac surface of Norman park. The start is on grass and is wide to cater for so many runners with a conned section on our righthand side that leads us onto a tarmac path.
Next there is a dog-leg tree lined section you have to navigate twice that almost cuts the park in half, then run around the edge of the football pitches on the grass until you get to the far end near Hooks Farm Road, the next section is a steady gradual fall back to the children’s playground near the start line!
On the final lap you miss out the dog-leg and run up the tarmac path to the pavilion where the finish tunnel awaits!
Excellent touch at the end of the race they provided cups of water for the runners as the weather was starting too hot up!
Personal Stats
Least it was faster than last week, time 33:47
Important Info
There is a free car park near the start and the Sat Nav is BR2 9EJ also there are toilets available before the start at the pavilion. There was a mobile catering van by the pavilion for refreshments!
Final Verdict
I would like to thank the run director Martin and his team of volunteers making us all feel at home and the professional way they dealt with such a large volume of runners wishing to run Bromley. Top work guys!!!!
Extra News
I decided to make it a day long event in Bromley and what a lovely day it was too! First of all I would like to thank Johan Oosterling from Nuffield Health Gym for kindly allowed me to use their sauna, Jacuzzi and pool facilities as well as shower for free of charge! That was a lovely gesture from you and was greatly appreciated especially after a hot 5k parkrun!
Then I had to go see the mighty Bromley FC v Wrexham in the football conference, the game did not disappoint as it ended up 4-3 win to Bromley. I don’t think it is doing the health of the locals any good though with that tight finish to the game 🙂
So I salute you Bromley for giving me a top day of memories on my capital parkrun adventure!
