Wondering what to do on my day off from running my capital parkrun challenge, it was a no brainer volunteer at a local parkrun to give something back that has given me so much over the last year namely parkrun
So on a cold but fresh New Years Eve I took the plunge again to become a course marshal at St Albans parkrun for the morning! This venue is close to my heart as it is the location of my first ever run parkrun back in Feb 2015 and is currently the location of my fastest parkrun time of 27:17 🙂
Actually before i started my challenged I volunteered for parkrun duty more than run them! It is so good for the soul to help out at your local parkrun with my favourite role being marshalling with yesterday being no exception!
This picture (from Adam Langford) for me sums up the beauty of parkrun, this lady determination to finish the course with a beautiful smile at my home parkrun Luton Wardown is enough to melt the hardest of hearts! The pleasure was all mine to be her tail runner.
Final Verdict
I would like to thank Richard and the rest of the volunteer team for making me very welcome, it was also a lovely but unexpected touch that you announced my challenge to the runners before the start and all the kind comments I received from them then after from my marshalling position!
So if you are coming back from injury or just want to help out Please, Please Please become a parkrun volunteer for the morning! Trust me it is a very rewarding noble thing to do in supporting your local event!
I love parkrun
